An excursion gives the students and the teachers a break from their regular routine. Students get very excited and look forward to their day out. They get to see and appreciate new things. They also get to bond with each other and the teacher outside the structure of a typical school day. Weather the trip is educational or just for fun students typically return refreshed with renewed enthusiasm to contribute in the classroom.
Educational outings and excursions allow students to learn in a more hands-on and interactive manner. Teachers choose trips/venues that augment and correlate lesson plans. Teachers brief the students before they head out and upon their return the students are expected to write a short report. The interactive learning experience facilitates understanding and results in better recall.
Educational outings provide students an opportunity to meet people in various professions. It may prompt them to consider a career path that may not have been known to them at all.
Popular sites visited by the students include the Planetarium, the National Science Museum, the National History Museum, the Rail Museum, the Parag Dairy, and the Parliament House. Class picnics and outings to the Appu Ghar amusement park, the Fun and Food Village, and the India Gate lawns are an annual feature. For senior school students the school arranges visits to local industrial units.
Students learn to travel in a group and respect the rules of the location and the environment they are visiting.
